It is so difficult for me to know when to use the Spanish verbs llevar and traer since English speakers use the verbs to bring and to take interchangeably.  The Spanish expression, un hueso duro de roer , translates to English as a hard or tough nut to crack . The Spainway Blog Del Español describes this expression as meaning a person who is difficult to convince, or a complex situation that is difficult to resolve. "Es una expresión utilizada para indicar una persona es dificil de convencer, dura y exigente. También puede referirse a situaciones que son complicadas de resolver".  When describing a person, un hueso duro de roer can mean a tough cookie .
